America leads the world in entertainment.
But every once in a while a foreign film comes along which blows people away.
This one should be no different:
“Sein letztes Rennen” (“His last run”) is a German movie about an elderly couple being moved into a retirement home. Confronted with what he considers “the end”, positive Paul, full of energy and with nothing inspiring left to do, decides to participate in and train for an upcoming marathon.
Everyone tries to discourage him, but he gets his way and takes part.
78 year old Dieter Hallervorden has been a famous comedian in Germany since the 1970s.
In the mid 60s he was a struggling stand up comic when a strange twist of fate catapulted him to national stardom.
He was on stage performing in Berlin where at the time a serial killer was on the loose. His target: prostitutes.
A police sketch resembled Dieter Hallervorden, so while he was on stage performing, police came in, came on stage and arrested him in front of his own audience.
Dieter, not bitter, decided to use this incidence to his advantage and booked a nationwide tour.
It sold out. And within a few years he received his own weekly sitcom.
I highly recommend watching this movie. Even if you don´t understand German.
